Legislative Report – 17 June 2009

In the presidency of Obama, he is continuing his aggressive pursuit of yet another huge portion of our country’s economy.  That is healthcare.  We have already seen with the TARP stimulus, taking control of the banks, and the auto industry, that this administration has every intent of controlling our economy in as much as our legislators and electorate will allow.  However, that is where we must stand up against President Obama’s NATIONAL HEALTHCARE plans.
According to Americans for Prosperity, The Presidents Council of Economic Advisors released a claim that by greatly expanding the number of people who are dependent on governement for their health care, will somehow save our country money.  One must obviously ask, how?  The President once again proclaims that we must act NOW, or a catastrophic calamity will befall the American people.  Somehow, we were told the same thing for the stiumulus pkg, and the takeovers of our banking and auto industries took place.  Additionally, President Obama wishes to drive a huge number, by some accounts 46 million people, he says are in dire need of care.  According to some experts, those numbers are not only greatly exaggerated, but also misleading.  Within that number are persons making over $75,000 per year, who choose not to purchase health care and young citizens who decide its worth the risk not to have health insurance at this time in their lives.  However, the largest number are the illegal aliens this administration wants to provide yet another benefit at tax payers expense.
Since Washington is already using command and control to guide S-CHIP, Medicare and Medicaid; and these programs budgets are in absolute shambles, why should we as Americans believe and have confidence that they can provide yet another program within its boundaries.  I believe we already know the answer.
This week, President Obama had a conference with the American Medical Association (AMA), and even they were not sold on Obama’s plans.  Dr. Nancy Nielsen, Pres., AMA wrote a letter to the editor in the New York Times that, “a government-run health care plan is certainly NOT the only option on the table, and there ARE alternatives we are actively considering.”  She also said, however, they were in continued discussions with President Obama.  It would behoove us as Americans to let the AMA know we do NOT support government-run health care.
In an article on June 3, “Canadian Healthcare Coming to America” by Jillian Bandes, a National Political Reporter for Townhall.com, said, “Obama administration officials met this week with Jack Layton, head of Canada’s New Democratic Party, to try and help mold Obama’s working healthcare plan into something that resembles Canada’s.”  She also writes that Canadians are discouraged by their government from obtaining private health care, and most of its citizens don’t have access to private health care in their country.  Is that what we want for America?
We must let our representatives hear our voice in this matter, before it is too late.  By all news accounts, Obama is having a difficult sell in this area.  Many Americans are waking up to all this government takeover.  However, we must NOT assume that all will be well if we don’t act.   Lets be heard and heard loudly!  Call the White House @ 202-456-1414 or e-mail whitehouse.gov.  Let our senators Kay Hagan @Hagan.senate.gov or 202-224-6342 and Richard Burr @Burr.senate.gov and 202-224-3154 hear you loud and clear.  Lastly, let the Pelosi run house know we don’t want or need government health care.  Contact Representatives:  Bob Etheridge @ 202-225-4531, Mike McIntyre @ 202-225-2731, Larry Kissell @ 202-225-3715, and U.S. Congressional Switchboard @ 202-224-3121.
     Remember, “Inaction is acceptance.”
